The challenge
Identifying opportunities for optimisation while ensuring clinically appropriate prescribing requires time, data and clinical expertise.
That’s exactly what we delivered for a Midlands ICB. Our managed review programme for blood glucose meters, test strips and insulin pen needles helped practices align with local formularies with the objective of improving prescribing consistency and deliver measurable savings.
The objective
Our aim was simple: identify patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who could benefit from a prescribing review, support practices to make clinically appropriate formulary-aligned changes and deliver measurable savings across the ICB.
Results
Delivered across 70 GP practices.
How Spirit delivered the service
Engage – Worked directly with practices to coordinate participation across the programme.
Identify – Used ICB-approved prescribing searches to identify eligible patients.
Review – Supported practices with clinically appropriate formulary-aligned prescribing recommendations.
Measure – Tracked outcomes and demonstrated measurable prescribing savings across the programme.¹
