From servers to strategy – meet our Head of IT

By on October 28, 2025

At Spirit Health, we know that technology is only as powerful as the people behind it. From supporting patients through digital health innovation to helping colleagues stay connected and secure, our IT team are some of the brilliant people who make it all happen. Guided by our Head of IT, Shabbir, their curiosity, collaboration and calm determination keep our digital world running smoothly – making health easier for everyone.

When you ask Shabbir what a typical day looks like, he laughs. “There’s no such thing,” he says. “One moment I might be reviewing cybersecurity policies or managing system upgrades, and the next I’m helping another department align IT projects with business goals. It’s never dull.”

With a background in Electronics Engineering and Digital Signal Processing, Shabbir has always been fascinated by how technology can solve real-world problems. “I’ve gone from circuits and processors to big-picture systems thinking,” he explains. “What excites me most is connecting the missing pieces, because that’s where real innovation happens.”

Driving innovation, one project at a time

Recently, Shabbir created a 260-step AI-powered process that cleans and sorts raw data to produce automated reports for clients, saving internal teams hours every month. “Once you learn how to communicate with AI properly, the results can be amazing,” he says. “It’s about being clear on what you want and letting the technology work with you, not against you.”

For Shabbir, IT is not just about systems and software. It is about people.

“My team’s job is to make sure technology never gets in the way of great work. We build tools that make life easier so our colleagues can focus on patients, not passwords.”

Always learning, always improving

The world of technology never stands still, and neither does Shabbir. He regularly takes courses on Udemy and Microsoft Learn, staying ahead of new technologies and certifications. He is particularly excited about the rise of AI and automation. “It is changing the way we think, work and create. The opportunity for healthcare is enormous, allowing faster decisions, better insights and more time for people to focus on what matters.”

The human side of IT

Behind the data dashboards, there is a fun side to the IT team too. Ask Shabbir about his theme song, and he does not hesitate: Mission Impossible. “Every day is a new challenge, and that music just fits. Whatever the mission, we will get it done.”

When he is not solving digital mysteries, you will find him with a cup of tea (after his morning coffee boost), tinkering with DIY projects. “I love building things from wood,” he says. “My wife says I do a better job than the professionals. I like to think my engineering brain helps.”

Words to work by

Shabbir’s advice for anyone considering a career in IT is simple:

“Stay curious. Keep learning. Technology moves fast, so adaptability is everything. But do not forget that communication is just as important as technical skill. Being able to explain complex ideas clearly will take you far.”

They are the quiet force behind the scenes and a big part of what makes Spirit run smoothly every single day. Thank you to Shabbir for all of his work and for sharing a bit more about his day-to-day with us.
